Framemaker 7.0 integration with SiberSafe XML CMS

Teams using FrameMaker as their authoring tool have, till now, faced a large barrier to adopting XML as part of their collaboration and reuse strategy. Because of their large investment in legacy content, it has been largely impossible for these teams to make a clean transition to XML. With the introduction of FrameMaker 7.0 and SiberSafe 5, these teams can now enjoy all the benefits of XML such as reuse, single sourcing, collaboration on large documents and interoperation with other XML content creators.

Legacy Content Conversion – teams with an investment in content that resides in unstructured frame documents have not previously had a good way of converting those content assets to XML. SiberSafe 5 introduces the configurable MIF converter that allows any legacy frame content to be converted to XML. Depending on how well the converter is configured, the resulting XML will be valid or near valid, requiring only a few changes to be valid. The conversion process allows the document administrator to specify how the legacy content will be translated to XML.

XML Native Round Trip Editing – a new plug-in to FrameMaker allows editing of XML files and entities contained in SiberSafe repository within FrameMaker environment.

FrameMaker as an XML Publication engine – SiberSafe 5 includes a configurable FrameMaker publication driver that allows XML documents to be published to PDF using all the features of FrameMaker. Each document type (New release, product brochure, User’s Manual, etc.) can have its own template. The user can select which template to apply to the XML document.

Michael Priestley of IBM is instructing two workshops, scheduled for Research Triangle Park, organized by Tri-XML.

Is your organization considering DITA? The Darwin Information Typing Architecture is gaining users — and interest — worldwide. Software companies are rushing to add DITA support to their software products. As DITA gains ground, companies are struggling to understand what DITA is about and how they might use it within their enterprise.

In response to this need for explanation, Tri-XML is pleased to announce that IBM’s own Michael Priestley will be instructing two workshops on DITA! These workshops will be held at the Sheraton Imperial in Research Triangle Park, NC. We have approximately 30 seats available. Because of the uniqueness of these offerings, and the fact that IBM’s own DITA developer is instructing, it is recommended that you sign up quickly to avoid missing these workshops.
