Technical Writer opening in Fairfax, Virginia
Responsibilities:
Write user manuals, training materials, systems lifecycle documents and project-management related documents for DOD projects. This is a staff writer position (for a defense contractor), dedicated on-site to one client located in Fair Lakes area. An excellent opportunity with a growing firm.
Candidate must have at least 5 years previous professional experience in technical writing and knowledge of DOD/military support services is required. Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in Technical Communications, English or Journalism or related field. Position requires U.S. citizenship and a valid driver’s license. Candidate must have extensive knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and tools; strong technical writing and editing skills; and excellent mastery of the English language; excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software, especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint and in-depth knowledge of the use and application of Word styles, templates (.dot files), tables of contents and lists of figures, importing and placing outputs from other platforms into documents. Experience with Photoshop elements or other graphic design software is desired. Proficiency in creating graphic depictions from complex statistical data using Excel desirable. Candidate must have excellent time-management, organization and planning skills and demonstrated ability to meet ambitious deadlines and adjust to changing priorities and tight deadlines. Salary is commensurate with experience.
