Systems Integrators and Customers Embrace Ease-of-Use, Collaboration and XML Features to Simplify Editing Process

SAN JOSE, Calif. ó June 24, 2002 (NASDAQ: ADBE) óAdobe Systems Incorporated, the leader in network publishing, today announced the immediate availability of AdobeÆ InCopyÆ 2.0 software, a professional copy editor tightly integrated with Adobe InDesignÆ software, the award winning professional layout and design program.

Designed for writers, editors and copy fitters at magazines and newspapers, InCopy 2.0 software offers capabilities that go beyond traditional word processing applications to help manage and streamline the entire editorial process. Available through leading systems integrators, InCopy includes support for XML, enhanced editing tools such as dynamic spell check, and an improved interface that lets users work on multiple views of a story simultaneously.

Systems integrators, Digital Technology International (DTI), Managing Editor Inc. (MEI), net-linx Publishing Solutions Inc., Press Computer Systems, SchlumbergerSema, SoftCare and WoodWing are supporting InCopy 2.0 by developing and implementing solutions based on the software at their customer sites and developing plug-in solutions. Plug-in examples include WoodWing’s Smart Connection, MEI’s TruEdit, and SoftCare’s K4 Publishing System, which all provide workflow tools to manage InCopy documents within an InDesign layout.

InCopy is part of an integrated solution with InDesign that offers improved collaboration between editors and page layout designers. Users can simultaneously view a galley and a layout, letting writers see accurate InDesign line breaks in the layout view, while having the freedom to edit copy in the new full text mode. InCopy and InDesign provide superior typographic capabilities through sharing the same paragraph composer for faster high-quality page layout and design. Through new user interface controls, InCopy 2.0 offers dynamic spell check, a built-in thesaurus, fast text substitution and table creation functionality, to help editors and writers manage the editorial processes more effectively. Tables are easily created, exported and imported between both programs; and MicrosoftÆ Excel tables can be incorporated as well. Improved collaboration lets users annotate and add comments to text with the in-line notes feature. For convenient review, notes can be exported as an Adobe PDF file.

XML Streamlines Cross-Media Workflow

As an integral part of a cross-media workflow, the XML capabilities in InCopy streamline the layout and editing process, ultimately saving time and reducing approval cycles. Users can now create, import, edit and export stories in XML format. Additionally, InCopy and InDesign share the same XML structure making it a seamless process to import stories created in InCopy directly into InDesign.

Pricing and Availability

Adobe InCopy 2.0 is immediately available to system integrators as part of an integrated solution with Adobe InDesign. InCopy is only available through the Adobe’s system integrator channel. Pricing is determined by the integrators, based on individual installations.
