Adobe software and Mac OS X
The launch of Apple’s new OS X operating system delivered a powerful desktop platform with enhanced stability and reliability for the Macintosh customer.
To support this revolutionary operating system, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Adobe After Effects, Adobe GoLive, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe LiveMotion are OS X native. Customers can reasonably expect that future versions of flagship Adobe products will all be OS X-compliant.
Adobe’s reputation is built on delivering stable, innovative software of the highest quality; our customers expect nothing less. We will continue to place product quality at the top of our product development priorities and will update our customers, partners, and the press on the status of our products running on Mac OS X, in both classic and native modes.
Adobe software got its start on the Macintosh computer. Today, the Mac platform remains important for Adobe and our customers. For specific information on the Mac OS X support of a particular Adobe application, including performance levels, click the appropriate link at left.
Q: Is there truth to the rumors that relations are strained between Adobe and Apple?
A: None whatsoever. The relationship is very strong, and could even be characterized as familial. As with any close, long-standing relationship, issues sometimes arise that are dealt with and overcome, but overall the relationship is solid. Adobe and Apple have many customers in common, so it’s imperative that the two companies work well together to deliver the highest quality, highest performance products possible.
Q: Does Adobe still consider the Macintosh market to be an important one for its business?
A: Absolutely. While the Mac market is less than 50 percent of Adobe’s overall business, it’s important to remember that many of the higher-end graphics and publishing users are operating in Mac environments. These kinds of users tend to be trendsetters and early adopters, so focusing on and satisfying this segment of the overall market is critical to Adobe’s success.
Q: Which products will Adobe introduce as OS X-native?
A: ALL major apps in their next major rev will be OS X-compliant. Acrobat, After Effects, GoLive, Illustrator, InDesign, and LiveMotion are first examples of the Adobe products that are compliant.
